How to Replace the Battery in a Mazda CX-9 Smart Key Fob (2016 - 2019)
-
Identify the Key Fob Version: Determine if your Mazda CX-9 key fob has four buttons with a hatch button or just three buttons. Both versions have the same method for replacing the battery and were used from 2016 to 2019. They both use a CR2025 battery.
-
Locate the Grooves: Find the small grooves on the inside of the key fob. Use a regular flat-head screwdriver to gently insert it between the grooves. Apply a small amount of force to create a separation.
-
Remove the Cover: Once you've created a separation, repeat the process on the other side. Insert the screwdriver into the opening, move it down, give it a twist, and the cover should come off easily. Remove the piece of plastic to access the battery.
-
Replace the Battery: Slide out the CR2025 battery using your finger. Obtain a new CR2025 battery and insert it in its place. Ensure that any small rubber piece stays in position.
-
Reassemble the Key Fob: Place the plastic cover back on and click it into place. Reinsert the battery compartment back into the key fob.
-
Alternative Method for Access: If your key fob has a hatch button, you can insert the screwdriver at the corner and gently pop out each side to create a separation. Insert a key about halfway and apply a little force while twisting to access the back of the key fob.
-
Replace the Battery (Alternative Method): Once you have accessed the back, follow the same steps to replace the CR2025 battery as mentioned earlier.
-
Reassemble the Key Fob: After replacing the battery, pop the cover back on securely.
By following these steps, you can easily replace the battery in your Mazda CX-9 Smart Key Fob from 2016 to 2019, ensuring that it continues to function effectively.
