How to Replace the CCV System and Remove the Intake Manifold on a BMW E46

1. Prepare the Necessary Materials:

   • Purchase 2 feet of 1/8 inch vacuum line and 3/8 inch T-shaped connector.
   • Identify if you have the normal or cold weather version of the CCV system.

2. Disconnect the Battery:

   • Open the trunk and remove the panel.
   • Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.

3. Remove Components Connected to the Intake Manifold:

   • Remove the right tube connected to the intake manifold.
   • Examine and clean the dipstick tube.
   • Remove the bolts from the throttle body.
   • Disconnect all electrical connectors from the intake manifold components.

4. Disconnect Additional Components:

   • Disconnect the evap purge valve and associated hoses.
   • Remove the idle air control valve and clean it if necessary.
   • Disconnect the positive cable and oxygen sensor wires.

5. Relieve Pressure in the Fuel Rail:

   • Locate the schrader valve to release pressure.
   • Disconnect the electrical connectors from the fuel injectors.

6. Remove the Fuel Rail:

   • Remove the 4 10mm bolts holding the fuel rail in place.
   • Disconnect the fuel lines carefully.

7. Disconnect Vacuum Lines:

   • Identify and disconnect all vacuum lines attached to the intake manifold.

8. Remove the Intake Manifold:

   • Locate and remove the 11mm nuts holding the intake manifold in place.
   • Carefully lift off the intake manifold, ensuring no components are still attached.

9. Replace the CCV System:

   • Identify the CCV separator and remove it using T20 Torx screws.
   • Transfer necessary components from the old CCV to the new one.
   • Install the new CCV system by following the correct orientation and twisting it into place.

10. Reassemble Components:

• Reconnect all vacuum lines and components to the intake manifold.
• Secure the intake manifold back onto the engine with the 11mm nuts.
• Ensure all connections are tight and secure.

11. Final Checks:

• Double-check all connections and hoses.
• Reconnect the battery and start the engine to test for any issues.
• Monitor for leaks or unusual sounds.

12. Clean Up:

• Dispose of any old components properly.
• Clean the work area and tools used during the process.
